Approval Control

View as Markdown

An Approval Control is a type of control that requires a designated Zuora user to review and approve a selected AI operation before it runs. It supports separation of duties for sensitive operations.

Administrators can use natural-language prompts to define:

  • Which read or write operations require approval
  • The conditions or thresholds that trigger an approval request
  • Which Zuora users can approve the request

When a request matches an Approval Control, Zuora AI keeps it in a pending state instead of executing it. The request is routed to a designated approver, who must approve or reject it before the operation can proceed. Human approval is required before Zuora AI completes the operation.

The person who submitted the request cannot approve their own request.

Approval Center

The Approval Center is the workspace where designated approvers review and act on pending Approval Control requests. It is available in Zuora Billing and Zuora Revenue.

Approval requests provide the information needed for review, including approval status, approver names, localized timestamps, approval notes, and a link to the originating Zuora AI conversation.

The Approval Center was previously named Inbox in the product.

Approval Controls are different from the standard approval behavior in Supervised mode. In Supervised mode, the user who submitted a proposed write action approves it. With an Approval Control, the request is routed to another designated approver.

Permissions for Approval Controls

To configure Approval Controls, you must have permission to configure AI Controls:

  • In Zuora Billing, you must be a Platform Administrator.
  • In Zuora Revenue, you must have the Security Function Access role.

Administrators select the designated approvers when they create an Approval Control. Designated approvers review assigned requests in the Approval Center.

Relationship to Controls

Approval Controls are a separate type of Control that adds a human approval step for selected operations. Use the existing Controls topic to understand tenant-level behavior guardrails for Zuora AI.

In the product and documentation, use Controls as the label for behavior guardrails. Do not introduce Behavior Controls as a separate product name.
